Hawkwood Youth on Mission

We have a group of 17 going from Hawkwood Baptist Church on a youth mission trip next July. We are incredibly excited for this opportunity and want to share with you today what it is that we are doing.

The Gathering

Every 3 years our denomination, the North American Baptists, hold a Youth Conference that is also a Youth Missions trip. This is a fantastic way for students to receive world class training and then put it into action straight away. Each night we will gather together with about 800 other students from across North America. These evening sessions will train us encourage us. During the afternoons, we will spread out over Orange, California doing all sorts of service and teaching. Can you imagine the impact that will be made in that city? Can you imagine the impact that will be made in these students lives?

There will be a wide variety of ways that the whole group serves including Vacation Bible Schools, Sports Camps, Inner City Work and Community Projects. We are looking forward to shining God’s light at 800 Christians bright, and we pray that people will see our good works, and hear our testimonies, and join us in praising God in heaven. In preparation for this trip, our students are being discipled weekly in Discipleship Groups. I believe that the success of our trip relies heavily on the work that God is doing in each one of their lives now, and leading up to when we go in July. There will be just 17 of us on this mission, but we go as representatives of Hawkwood Baptist Church. We want to share our experiences leading up to, and after the trip as a way of encouraging each person who calls this church home.

We also know that prayer is essential to everything that we do. And so we want you to pray for us. Pray for us today, and as often as you can from now until July, There is also an insert in the bulletins today that has information about the trip as well as some of the financial goals that we need to achieve. I want to thank everyone who has already been a part of the fundraising that we have done. In the insert you can see our goals, how much as been raised, and our plans for future fundraising efforts. I have asked each member of the trip to come up today and share with the church in two ways. The first is to encourage the Church. The second is to share a prayer request. I am hoping that you all will take notes of these prayer requests, and who is making the request, so that you can be informed in how to pray for us. When the service is over today, those going on the trip will line up across the front of the room and we hope that many of you will come and pray for us.

My prayer request is that God would bless our efforts to be Jesus disciples and that the obedience that these youth are showing would result in Godly joy-filled life for each one of them.

I also want to encourage you this morning on the topic of peace. Philippians 4:6–8 (HCSB) Philippians 4:6–8 HCSB Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise—dwell on these things. 6 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise—dwell on these things.
